Durban is a city where a guide makes a real difference, because the parts worth seeing and the parts to avoid sit within a few blocks of each other. This tour walks the central city with a local guide, meeting at ten in the morning at Tekweni Backpackers on Ninth Avenue in Morningside, just off Florida Road.

The two itinerary stops are the Victoria Street Market, allowed a full three hours, and the beachfront, allowed an hour. Getting between them is by local minibus — the combi — which is itself part of the point and something most visitors would not attempt alone. Lunch is included at a local restaurant; drinks and personal expenses are not.

The group is capped at ten and there is no hotel pickup, so you make your own way to Morningside. The tour ends on Marine Parade at North Beach rather than back at the start.
