Pilanesberg and Sun City share a fence, and a combined day gives you a game drive in the morning and the resort in the afternoon. Whether that is a good use of a day depends entirely on what you want: it is the efficient way to see both, and it is not enough time for either.
Sun City opened in 1979 and holds four hotels, the Valley of Waves water park, a casino and two Gary Player golf courses. The park next door is malaria-free Big Five country in an extinct volcanic crater.
What to check before you book
- How the day splits between the park and the resort
- Whether park entry, the per-vehicle fee and Sun City day access are included
- Whether the game drive is in an open vehicle
- Total duration — two hours each way from Johannesburg before anything starts
- Whether Valley of Waves entry is included, if that is the point for you
