The Cango Caves are a limestone system in the Swartberg foothills north of Oudtshoorn, and the standard visit takes about two hours underground through chambers of flowstone and dripstone. This trip pairs that with the Safari Ostrich Farm, which is the other reason people come to Oudtshoorn — the town was built on ostrich feathers in the late nineteenth century and the farms still work.
Pickup is within Oudtshoorn at eight in the morning, in an air-conditioned vehicle carrying a maximum of ten. Admission to both the caves and the farm is included, along with lunch and all fees and taxes. Drinks at lunch, gratuities and souvenirs are not.
The caves involve stairs and some moderate exertion, and the tour is not wheelchair accessible. Viator files it under the broad Western Cape destination because it has no Oudtshoorn node, but the departure is genuinely local.
