The Knysna Heads are the two sandstone cliffs that guard the narrow, notoriously difficult entrance where the lagoon meets the sea, and the only way to properly understand them is from the water. This cruise runs about an hour and a quarter from the jetty on Thesen Island, out across the lagoon and down towards the Heads.
The boat is a restored wooden vessel and departures are capped at fourteen passengers, so it is a small-group trip rather than a party cruise. Safety gear and life jackets are carried aboard; commentary is in English. Oysters, platters and drinks are pre-order extras rather than inclusions.
The meeting point is the Magic Lagoon Charters kiosk beside Flo & Co on the Thesen Island jetty, a short walk from the car park, and the trip returns there. Knysna oysters are farmed in this lagoon, and the Featherbed reserve occupies the western Head.
